CSUCI Exhibitions Gallery
Current Show: CLAY
STATION 3
March 6- April - 17, 2008.
Reception: Thursday, March
13, 6-8PM
This exhibit presents a diverse body of ceramic work produced by
CSUCI students. The playful title hints at the imaginative and diverse
works that will be exhibited by this group of talented artists, and
while they all share a common medium, each of the participants explores
a wide range of ideas. "There is nothing more exciting or irresistible
than a bag of new clay," says art student Amerique, one of several
students presenting work as a part of “ClayStation 3.” Andrew
Cummings actually goes so far as to sum up his entire college experience
as a matter of "scoring, slipping, and pulling," all terms
familiar to any ceramics enthusiast. On a more theoretical note, artist
Conrad Rasmussen cryptically describes his work as "neodeconstructive
deconstruction." In the midst of all the diverse viewpoints, perhaps
Jeff Schwerdtfeger provides the clearest conclusion, "at the end
of the day, clay always wins."
