CSUCI Exhibitions Gallery

Next Show: TRICHOTOMY
May 1 through May 9, 2008.
Reception: Thursday, May 1, 6-8PM
What would happen if creative individuals in a range of fields worked independently to solve similar challenges? Where would the responses cross over? Where would they differ? “Trichotomy,” as the title indicates, attempts to answer these questions with an experimental gallery exhibition incorporating three distinct media – creative writing, graphic design, and photography.

“ Trichotomy: One Song—three visions” has invited 63 writers, designers, and photographers, to respond to 21 specific musical selections. Songs such as the Beatles classic, “I Am the Walrus,” Andrew Bird’s “Don’t Be Scared,” and Feist's I Feel It All” will provide the impetus for a diverse collection of writing, design, and photography. This interdisciplinary collaboration provides a captivating look at how inspiration is captured through music.
“ I’m excited that these different mediums will attempt to relate to the same subject,” said Ronnie Sullivan, a writing participant. “As an emerging writer, I find it intriguing to contribute a piece of art to create a greater whole.” Sullivan, like all of the participants, is working in secret to complete his piece. Only when the exhibition is unveiled will the designers, writers, and photographers, see the possible connections between their works.
“ I appreciate the interdisciplinary concept,” said photographer/participant John Lee. “It's interesting to compare and contrast interpretations of the same subject from various disciplines. It gives people insight into the different or deceptively similar processes involved with creating art.”
63 total works will be on display in this remarkable exhibition. Participants will include CSUCI students, alumni, and faculty, as well as the advanced photography class from West Ranch High School in Valencia.
